The
first thing that strikes you about
The Courtyard Saturday Café is the
overwhelming realization that the
weekend is finally here. Nowhere in
Hereford offers such diversity on a
Saturday afternoon. Music is the
central attraction at the café and
on this particular Saturday I had
the pleasure of hearing The Rod
Kelly Trio, a trio of Jazz musicians
playing classic Jazz emphasizing the
laid back mood. The music theme is
set to go on through the rest of the
year with performances from various
local bands. |

Sitting outside on the patio
enjoying a superb glass of Chianti
and taking in the beautiful
June
sunshine, The Courtyard felt almost
continental. It seems the appeal of
the café extends through all ages
from three to eighty three. How
refreshing to see all age groups
enjoying timeless music, dancing and
clearly enjoying every moment. The
Courtyard building certainly comes
into its own in the sunshine. The
main building, constructed mainly
from glass is perhaps at its most
alluring with the sunshine streaming
through, reiterating the continental
feel. |

But it
isn’t just the music that’s
appealing here. The selection of
food served on a Saturday is of the
highest quality using fresh,
wholesome ingredients and prepared
and presented with care and
attention. The staff are congenial,
friendly and efficient, ensuring the
high standards you come to expect
from The Courtyard. The food served
on a Saturday ranges from sumptuous
home-made soup to substantial dishes
such as Salmon and Seafood Filo Pie
or Pork Tenderloin with Apricots and
Tarragon. The menu has been compiled
with thought and is very reasonably
priced. |

I have
only praise for this wonderful haven
from the hustle and bustle of
Hereford city centre. Where else can
you find this wonderful combination
of top Hereford musical talent,
excellent food and drink on a
Saturday afternoon? The answer is
nowhere, which is why I choose to
return time after time. |
