Subject: Press release from Paul Keetch MP KEETCH WELCOMES RECALL OF PARLIAMENT Embargo; Immediate 12th September 2001 Paul Keetch, Member of Parliament for Hereford and Liberal Democrat Defence Spokesman has welcomed the news that Parliament is to be recalled this Friday. Mr Keetch was in London yesterday at the Defence Equipment Exhibition in docklands when news of the terrorist attack on the US came in. "This was an appalling act of barbarism", said Mr Keetch. "The world will never be the same again. All terrorists, of whatever origin, share in the guilt of those who perpetrated these terrible acts. This was an act of unparalleled aggression, not just on the United States, but on all the democracies of the world. "No matter how powerful an individual state may be, and the US is the most powerful nation on the planet, no nation alone can be secure against such evil. That is why nations must work together to defeat this menace. "There will be those who will call for immediate and indiscriminate retaliation. But we must remember that one of the aims of terrorists is to provoke such action. Any retaliation must be directed and coordinated. "Democracy will loose if we let our emotions lead us." Ends
