Hereford Youth Music ( HYM) is an arm of the Herefordshire Council’s Instrumental Music Service (IMS). The IMS provides music tuition in Herefordshire schools through a dedicated staff of over fifty teachers. The IMS also operates an instrument leasing scheme which lends instruments to pupils through schools for a very modest termly fee.  HYM provides an opportunities for young musicians to perform in ensembles that meet regularly in Hereford and in Area Music Centres in Ledbury, Ross-on-Wye and Wigmore. There is something for everyone - from orchestras to bands.  There are also guitar ensembles, jazz, strings, theory classes, brass, percussion, woodwind ensembles and a choir; these are all from elementary through to intermediate and advanced levels.

The Service offers opportunities for young people to perform in concerts and Music Festivals both nationally and locally throughout the year.  European tours are an added feature of activity and we also run an annual Showcase event in association with BBC Hereford and Worcester.

The annual Herefordshire residential music course which takes place each Easter takes up to 220 students in all subjects. Application forms for the course are available from September each year.

For more information on all the above activities, and for a handbook listing the activities and rehearsal dates, please contact Paul Aldred, Head of Service at the above address.
